The Venum elite challenger 3.0 BJJ gi is one of the best choking uniforms I’ve ever donned. The second of the gi’s Venum sent me to review. As soon as I took it out of the box, I was like a kid on Christmas. This is my style of gi and probably one I’d pick up on one those days when I feel like my jiu-jitsu is shit and I need something to make me feel better about a slump. Like a bimbo after a breakup with a pint of Ben and Jerrys.
There’s something about a black gi that makes me feel like an absolute gangsta. Maybe it’s the years of loving ninja movies and reading Batman comics but there something that comes over me when I put on a black gi. I guess the saying is true that once you go black, you never go back. The overall look of this gi is simple, a “let us get down to business” look with only two Venum logos embroidered on the front and back of the jacket. The gi is all black with grey thread stitching breaking it up and holding it all together. I like the clean look of this gi, and it sit’s in my collection as a true hybrid, the little red dress in my wardrobe. You can grind it out in this gi, a real weekday warrior. But it is also classy enough that you can show off at the weekend open mats and competitions all the same.
Alright, so the technical side it’s a pre-shrunk pearl weave gi with a 450 gsm jacket and 230 gsm one hundred percent cotton pants. The jacket and pants all come reinforced with extra cotton and stitching for wrestling all those mat monsters. The pants have an ultra-fast clamping system rope drawstring, so you’re never caught with your pants down.
I’ve had few hard sessions in this gi, and it holds up. The jacket breaths well and is lite, so it doesn’t feel like your rolling around in a wet ski jacket. The pants are cotton but are still breathable and my personal preference, I just like cotton ones over the ripstop stuff, but I’m old skool like that. I’ve been using this gi for a couple of months now and put it through a few washes, and it still looks brand new and fits like a glove. I keep looking, but I can’t find any negatives except it doesn’t come with a gi bag, but I think I can deal with that as I have a hundred of them anyway. I know it may seem like I’m overly biased, but I do just like this gi that much. I would put it in my top three of gi’s I own. That’s not something to be taken lightly because I’ve been at the choking game for awhile and have twelve of them. So you have to be doing something right to get my attention like trying to pick up a hot chick at a sports bar.
So in conclusion, if you haven’t guessed, I would give this give ten shakas out of ten or five acai bowls out of five. This is an excellent gi, something that is a joy to train in getting sweaty like a fat kid at PE class. With Christmas coming up and if you are looking for a fresh gi for under the tree, I’d start to leave the hints around the house that you want this one. You can pick it up for under ninety bucks on www.asia.venum.com as they are having a massive clear out with a lot of discounted items. Also use our discount code “VENUMHK” to get a further 15 percent off which is a crazy deal for a gi this good. Peace out players.
